My
name is Barbara Kemper-Nolan (but I go by Mrs. Nolan at
school). This is my third year teaching at Northwood
Hills. For the past two years, I thoroughly enjoyed
teaching 2nd Grade at NHE. You may be wondering why I have
switched from 2nd Grade to 6th Grade. Before I came to NHE,
I worked for seven years at a 6th Grade Center in South
Texas, including teaching behavior management and Resource
Math and Language Arts. So, while I loved teaching 2nd
Grade, when NHE needed a 6th Grade teacher, I was happy to
move back up!
Two
years ago, my family moved to Dallas from the San Antonio
area, when my husband accepted a position with a Dallas
engineering firm. We love it here! My daughter, Jenna, is
a recent graduate of Richardson High School. She has just
begun her freshman year at UT Dallas, where she is
majoring in Art and Technology (primarily digital graphics
and animation).
Before
I was a teacher, I worked for many years as a counselor. I
enjoyed my work very much. However, when my daughter
started school, I began volunteering on her campus and
teaching Sunday school. It was then that I realized how
very much I love teaching! When she got older, I began
working with students with behavior problems in school,
while I took classes to become certified in teaching. I am
currently certified in all subjects in PreK - 8th grade,
as well as all subjects in Special Education, PreK-12th
grade.
I
feel very blessed to be part of the Northwood Hills
family. Everyone has been very welcoming and helpful. I
have particularly enjoyed teaching such eager students who
love learning!
I
believe all of us are life-long learners. My next goal is
to become fluent in Spanish. My Spanish-speaking students
are very sweet about helping me practice at different
moments throughout the day.
Thanks
to all of you - students, parents, and staff - for
creating such an exceptional learning environment at
Northwood Hills! I know we will have a wonderful year
together!
