Top 10 11 Questions Asked by Parents

1.

Does my child go to this school?

The attendance area for Northwood Hills is shown in the map below (within the red boundary line).  It is as follows:

  • South of Beltline Road

  • North of Spring Valley Road

  • West of Coit Road

  • The western boundary goes west of Hillcrest, between Spring Valley and Belt Line.   Most of the streets are included in the Northwood Hills Elementary School borders, but some are not (they are in the Dallas School District).  Sometimes the boundaries run right in the middle of a street.

There are many apartment complexes that this encompasses, however the apartment managers are very helpful and know the attendance area for their apartments.  The most common apartments in the NHE attendance area are Watersong Villa Condominiums, Berkshire Square Apartments, Northwood Square Condominiums, and Cliffbrook Condominiums.

You are invited to call Cheri Scott at 469-593-4300 or email her to check on specific addresses, especially west of Hillcrest Road.

Northwood Hills does not have a Pre-K program at our school.  However, if your child has turned four (4) by September 1st and you can provide a birth certificate along with a Proof of Residency (i.e. gas, electric, water bill or lease), the school can fill out the proper paperwork to get your student enrolled in a Pre-K Program.

4.

When does school start and what are the hours?

Richardson Independent School District always announces the opening day of school in the Dallas Morning News.  The school marquee will also have a date on it when school starts.

The hours that school is in session are from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  If a student is eating breakfast at school they may enter the cafeteria door at 7:30 a.m.  The first bell rings at 7:50 a.m. and the tardy bell rings 8:00 a.m.  If a child is not in his/her classroom by 8:00 a.m. they are considered tardy.  Three tardies equal 1 unexcused absence for reporting purposes.  Kindergarten students will be led to the front porch by their teacher at 2:50 p.m..  The rest of the school will be released at 3:00 p.m.

11.

Can I pay for my child's meals in advance?

Yes, Northwood Hills participates in "paypams.com," an online website that handles prepayments for school meals.  Parents may log on to the site directly to deposit money into their child's account, thereby eliminating the need to send daily lunch money with their child.  Mastercard and Discover cards are accepted.  You may view your child's account balance and receive an automated email notification of balance status.  You are also able to view your child's account history.  Student plate lunches cost $2.00.  Breakfasts cost $1.25.  To participate, go to www.paypams.com.
