| Our
school has received several exciting awards over the summer!
We have been named a "Recognized" school by
the Texas Education Agency for the 2006-2007 school year! And
last week, the Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC)
announced its 2007 Honor Roll schools. Of the more than
8000 public schools in Texas, only about 5% received this
honor this year. I'm proud to say that Northwood Hills is
on this list! Honor Roll schools have the highest
percentage of students performing at the state's most rigorous
standard, commended, as well as passing all state assessments. |

This
afternoon, your child will bring home several forms for you to
complete and return as soon as possible. These include:
-
emergency
cards
-
health
forms
-
lunch
forms and insurance forms (if applying)
-
transportation
form (if your child goes to day care after school)
-
background
check form (Background checks are for anyone
volunteering at any RISD school. They are good for 2
years, so you need only return it if you did not do so
last year. If you aren't sure, please go ahead and
complete and return this form.)

| RISD
has a new policy designed to help ensure the safety of all
of our students. Beginning the 2nd week of school
(September 4), our policy will be "Hugs and Kisses at
the Door". Please drop your child off at school and we
will have many staff members around to help make sure he/she
gets to class okay. Until now, NHE and other RISD schools
allowed anyone to walk in the building in the mornings. Now,
the procedure will be to sign in at the office to come into
our building, even before or after school. As this may lead to
a very long line and wait, if you need to speak with a
teacher, please call or email them. They will respond
promptly. |
